I'm a freelance web and graphic designer based in Medford, MA. I've been designing and building all kinds of websites and print projects independently for over ten years. Recently I have become very involved in learning and using the Drupal open source content management system. I am now especially interested in undertaking Drupal web projects...please ask me if you want to know more about Drupal and what it can do!
I offer a fairly broad range of services, ranging from web information architecture and web content restructuring to complete website design and development. In addition to various print design services, I also offer illustration and custom graphics. Most of my design work is specialized in the areas of higher education, science, healthcare, and publishing. My clients range from small- and mid-size companies to universities and non-profit organizations.
Before launching Gallager Design in 2000, I spent ten years as a designer at Houghton Mifflin in Boston. I started as an assistant designer and ended as a senior designer, and designed a wide variety of both online and print materials, including book covers, textbooks, posters, ads, direct mail pieces, promotional merchandise, packaging, catalogs, brochures, and websites. Along the way I gained experience designing from an editorial as well as a marketing perspective.
My project management experience allows me to manage complex projects while assisting clients in successfully handling the many aspects of developing a web site or printed piece, ranging from consistency in editorial tone to technical issues. I enjoy playing an active role in the development of both design and content, and place special emphasis on communication goals and the thoughtful organization of information.
As a freelancer and independent contractor, I manage most design projects on my own, but also enjoy working as part of a team for a client when the opportunity arises. I also sometimes collaborate with my own network of other designers, editorial freelancers, and web developers/programmers to complete larger projects on schedule and on budget.
